How Do Larium 250mg tablets Work?

Larium 250mg tablets are a type of antimalarial medication. They contain the active ingredient mefloquine, which works by interfering with the parasite's ability to process and use haemoglobin, which it needs to survive. As a result, it affects the growth and reproduction of the parasites in the blood. Larium tablets may also be used to treat other parasitic infections, such as those caused by amoebas, worms, and other parasites. They work by killing the malaria parasites that are inside red blood cells. This helps to prevent the parasites from multiplying and causing more serious illnesses. As a result, it reduces the severity of the disease and the risk of death. Larium can also help to prevent malaria from spreading to others.

  • The recommended dosage is one tablet taken a week, to be taken on the same day each week.
  • The doses should be continued for the prescribed duration after leaving the endemic area.

Ingredients

The active ingredient is mefloquine

The inactive ingredients are maize starch, magnesium stearate, poloxamer, ammonium calcium alginate, talc, lactose, crospovidone, microcrystalline cellulose.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Vivid dreams
  • Sleep disturbances.

Less common side effects include:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Confusion
  • Seizures.
