Description

What is Zolmitriptan Orodispersible?

Zolmitriptan Orodispersible is a prescription medication used to treat acute migraine attacks, with or without aura (sensory disturbances like flashes of light or blind spots). It belongs to the class of drugs known as triptans, which are specifically designed to relieve the symptoms of migraines. These tablets are orodispersible, meaning they dissolve in the mouth without the need for water, making them a convenient option for individuals who struggle with nausea or difficulty swallowing during migraine attacks. Zolmitriptan is not used to prevent migraines but is effective in relieving the headache, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound that accompany migraines.

How Does Zolmitriptan Work?

Zolmitriptan works by stimulating serotonin (5-HT) receptors in the brain, which leads to the narrowing of blood vessels around the brain. During a migraine, blood vessels in the brain can widen, contributing to the pain and other symptoms. By narrowing these blood vessels, Zolmitriptan helps to alleviate migraine symptoms. Additionally, it reduces the transmission of pain signals in the brain. The orodispersible form is quickly absorbed, making it an effective treatment when you need fast relief, particularly if you experience nausea or vomiting during migraines, which can make swallowing difficult.
